As we turn our personal attentions to summer vacations, travel plans, and family time, the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra is busy with exciting new projects!
I have been amazed and personally touched by the excitement and enthusiasm that I and your musicians have received during my first season as Artistic Director & Conductor. The vast array of wonderful symphonic music we presented is just the tip of the iceberg. Soon you will see some of the rest of the iceberg, revealing even more of what a symphony can do, and what your Philharmonic will bring to you and your family.
Our 2017-18 concert season will amaze and inspire you. We have some of the biggest names in the symphonic repertoire being performed for you this season – Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak, Copland and many others.
I am also very pleased to announce two fabulous collaborations of the Philharmonic – Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and violin guest artist Iggy Jang.
I am thrilled that the West Hawaii Dance Theatre has invited myself and members of the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra to perform in the production of their typically sold-out December holiday classic, The Nutcracker Ballet. This will be the first time their annual production will include a full-orchestra support WHDT’s dance artists with the incredible music of Tchaikovsky.
We will also be presenting a performance by the concertmaster of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, Iggy Jang. He will bring a stellar performance of the famous Violin Concerto by Felix Mendelssohn.
Each season with the KPO will show you additional dimensions of what this symphony orchestra can do across Hawai’i Island. Our education mission is central. You will be seeing an even higher level of engagement, beyond the concert stage, as we expand our work with schools and our youngest music lovers.
Be on the lookout for the details of this coming season, and how you can get the best seats as a Season Subscriber. This will be a memorable year of live performing arts. And you also will be part of the music making!
Mahalo, and I’ll look forward to seeing all of you this coming season!
