We at the Kamuela Philharmonic believe that the youth are the future.
Because of that belief, one of our primary initiatives is to help bolster, improve, and in some cases add to Hawai‘i Island’s music education of our young students by exposing them to classical music in a fully rounded context.
With our Music in Schools program, we take a small number of musicians from the Orchestra and send them to schools across Hawai‘i Island to perform in educational school concerts. Each concert presents a “guided tour” through the families of instruments that make up an orchestra. The strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion familes—and sometimes more—are represented during the school presentations.
During the performances, our musicians also discuss and demonstrate their particular instrument, as well as provide opportunities for students to participate.
